Fubara denied access to Rivers assembly quarters

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was denied entry to the official quarters of the state House of Assembly along Aba Road in Port Harcourt on Wednesday. The complex has been serving as the venue for legislative sittings led by lawmakers loyal to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

Accompanied by top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, and his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, Governor Fubara arrived to find the gate locked, effectively barring his access.

Addressing journalists at the scene, Fubara accused Speaker Martin Amaewhule of deliberately avoiding him, stating that multiple calls to the Speaker had gone unanswered.

“I made several attempts to speak to the Speaker before coming here and also sent a letter regarding this invitation,” the governor explained. “Unfortunately, as you can see, the gate is sealed, and there are no signs of any activity today.”

Fubara emphasized that his actions were taken in the best interest of the people of Rivers State and reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities.

“The reason for what we are doing today is to ensure the well-being of our people, which remains my top priority. There’s no cause for concern. I expect to hear from them after today,” he added.

After his brief remarks, the governor and his entourage left the premises.
