President Bola Tinubu has appointed six new Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) for Federal Government-owned hospitals across various states, including Akure, Gombe, Azare, Lafiya, Maiduguri, and Kafanchan.
A statement issued by President Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday revealed that all appointments are for a four-year term, effective from their respective dates of assumption of office.
In his remarks, President Tinubu congratulated the newly appointed and reappointed CMDs, urging them to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and service delivery in their roles. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that all Nigerians have access to quality medical services.
Professor Olusegun Sylvester Ojo has been appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital in Akure, Ondo State. A seasoned medical professional, Prof. Ojo previously served as the pioneer CMD of the Ondo State Specialist Hospital.
Professor Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi has been reappointed as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe. His reappointment follows an outstanding performance during his first term. He will begin his second and final term on September 5, 2024.
Dr. Dauda Abubakar Katagum, who had been serving as the Acting Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital in Azare, Bauchi State, has now been confirmed as the substantive CMD.
Dr. Ikrama Hassan has been appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the newly upgraded Federal Teaching Hospital in Lafiya, Nasarawa State. Dr. Hassan, a consultant physician, previously served as the Medical Director of Dalhatu Ibrahim Arab Specialist Hospital before its elevation to a teaching hospital.
Dr. Ali Mohammed Ramat has been appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the newly established National Orthopedic Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno State. Dr. Ramat is a renowned Consultant Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon.
Dr. Haruna Abubakar Shehu has been appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the newly established Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State. Dr. Shehu is a Consultant Family Physician.
The statement also noted that Dr. Dauda Abubakar Katagum’s tenure as CMD of the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Azare, Bauchi State, took effect on December 6, 2024.
