The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that the nation’s power generation reached 5,713.60 megawatts on Tuesday, marking the highest level in four years.
In a statement released on Tuesday, TCN revealed that this new peak generation for 2025 was successfully transmitted to the grid. The milestone, achieved on March 4, 2025, surpassed the previous peak of 5,543.20MW recorded on February 14, 2025, by 170.40MW.
Although this new peak is 88MW shy of the all-time maximum generation of 5,801.60MW set on March 1, 2021, it is still regarded as a significant achievement for the power sector.
Additionally, TCN reported that the maximum daily energy output also reached a new record, climbing to 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh), up from 125,159.48MWh in February 2025.
“This marks the highest ever daily energy generation in Nigeria’s electricity industry, surpassing the previous record by 382.58MWh,” the statement added.
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had previously promised Nigerians that power generation would rise to 6,000MW by December 2024. However, this goal was not met due to challenges such as vandalism, grid collapses, and outdated power infrastructure.
Currently, over 50 percent of Nigerians still lack access to reliable electricity.
