FG unveils new revenue platform, says Remita will be integrated

The Federal Government launched a new revenue platform on Tuesday, named the Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance (TMRAS).

In a statement, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) clarified that despite the introduction of TMRAS, the Remita platform – the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)-approved payment gateway – would remain operational.

The statement, signed by OAGF spokesperson Bawa Mokwa, explained that Remita would be integrated into TMRAS alongside other eligible Payment Solution Service Providers (PSSPs). This integration aims to enhance the liberalization of government revenue collection and remittance processes.

The TMRAS policy was developed in line with directives from President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to improve treasury revenue assurance and optimize the budget performance of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

According to the OAGF, TMRAS is designed to streamline and coordinate the Federal Government’s revenue collections and payments across MDAs. It will facilitate the liberalization of government revenue payment processes, improve revenue collection, and provide efficient, timely analysis of relevant transaction data.

“Remita is one of the secured channels for revenue payments, but it’s not the only one. TMRAS will now allow other secure, licensed payment platforms to connect,” the OAGF said. “Thus, it will not be limited to Remita, but will also include other CBN-licensed payment service providers.”

To address concerns from revenue payers and the public, the OAGF reassured that Remita would remain the sole approved payment gateway for federal government transactions and revenue collection for at least two months. However, the OAGF also emphasized that the government is working to take over management of the front-end payment infrastructure and expand the system to accommodate additional CBN-licensed payment solution providers.
