LASEMA contains fire at Ago medical centre

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has successfully contained a fire that broke out in sections of a storey building housing the Ago Medical Centre off Ago Palace Way, Okota.

In a statement released early Saturday, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the agency swiftly activated the state’s emergency response plan after receiving distress calls on the 767/112 Emergency Toll-Free Lines at 6:29 PM on Friday.

Upon arriving at the scene by 6:50 PM, LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team found that a portion of the building, which houses the medical facility, was engulfed in flames. Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was triggered by a power surge, which caused a spark when the public electricity supply was restored.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu assured the public that no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. He emphasized that efforts were underway to contain the blaze and prevent its spread to neighboring buildings, with the fire still actively being battled by responders.

The ongoing response and recovery operations involve LASEMA’s Fire Unit, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Neighbourhood and Security Corps, and the Nigeria Police Force.
