Court stops Wabara’s suspension as PDP BoT chairman

Adolphus Wabara
An Abia State High Court sitting in Obehie, Ukwa West Local Government Area, has issued an injunction halting the enforcement of the suspension of former Senate President and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara.

In a ruling dated February 25, 2025, Justice L.T.C. Eruba ordered that the Abia PDP leadership, led by Abraham Amah, cease any action to enforce the suspension. The court granted Wabara’s request in a suit marked HUK/8/2025, restraining Amah from taking any steps that would affect Wabara’s position within the PDP.

The court’s order reads: “The defendant is restrained from enforcing the suspension of the claimant/applicant from the Peoples Democratic Party or in any way affecting his position as Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees until the motion on notice is determined.”

This legal battle stems from a few weeks ago when Amah, the former Vice Chairman of the PDP in Abia North, announced the suspension of Wabara, accusing him of anti-party activities. Amah pointed to Wabara’s positive comments about Governor Alex Otti, where he praised Otti for his work, particularly the reconstruction of the long-neglected Port Harcourt Road in Aba in October 2023. The state party leadership considered this as an act of disloyalty.

In response, the PDP National Working Committee declared the suspension null and void, arguing it violated the party’s constitution. Additionally, several pressure groups, including the PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress, condemned Amah’s actions, asserting that he lacked the constitutional authority to suspend a BoT Chairman.
