Grammys 2025: Beyonce wins album of the year for ‘Cowboy Carter’

Beyoncé accepts the Album of the Year award for “COWBOY CARTER” onstage during the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards at Crypto.com Arena on February 02, 2025 in Los Angeles, California.
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter made history once again at the 2025 Grammy Awards, earning 11 nominations and taking home two wins, bringing her total Grammy count to an unprecedented 34.

In a groundbreaking achievement, she became the first Black woman to win the prestigious Best Country Album award for Cowboy Carter. The award was presented by Taylor Swift, marking a historic moment for both Beyoncé and the country music genre.

Already holding the title of the most-awarded Grammy artist of all time—a distinction she earned in 2023 with Renaissance—Beyoncé extended that record with her two additional wins at the 2025 ceremony.

Taking the stage in disbelief, Beyoncé exclaimed, “Wow, I really was not expecting this. Wow, I wanna thank God—Oh my God!—that I’m able to still do what I love after so many years. Oh my God!” She continued, “I’d like to thank all the incredible country artists who embraced this album. We worked so hard on it. I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists, and I just want to encourage people to follow their passion and stay persistent.”

She added, “Wow, I’d like to thank my beautiful family, all the collaborators… thank you! This wouldn’t have been this album without you. I’d like to thank God again, and my fans—I’m still in shock. Thank you so much for this honor.”

Released in March 2024, Cowboy Carter was a trailblazing project that highlighted Black artists in country music, a genre where Beyoncé has previously shared her experience of feeling unwelcome. This Grammy win holds even greater significance in light of that history.

In addition to winning Best Country Album, Beyoncé was nominated for 11 Grammy awards at the 2025 ceremony, including Album of the Year and Best Country Album for Cowboy Carter. Her song Texas Hold ‘Em earned nominations for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Country Song. Meanwhile, 16 Carriages and Ya Ya were nominated for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Americana Performance, respectively.
