The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed two deaths following a suspected bomb explosion at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area, on January 6, 2025.
In a statement issued on Monday, the police reported receiving a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi and immediately dispatching a team, including an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, to the scene. The area was cordoned off to secure the site and facilitate an investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed that three men from Katsina, suspected of carrying an explosive device, visited the school owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu. While handling the improvised explosive device (IED) on the school’s veranda, two of the men died, while the third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries. The injured individuals are receiving medical treatment under police supervision.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the IED explosion, with remnants of the device recovered by the Bomb Squad. The school owner has been taken into custody for questioning, and further details are expected.
In a separate statement, the Chairman of Bwari Area Council, John Gabaya, reported one fatality at the scene, with four others, including a young girl selling awara (soybean cake) nearby, taken to the hospital for treatment.
FCT Police Commissioner Olatunji Disu urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
