Real Madrid cruised into the Copa del Rey last 16 with a dominant 5-0 win over fourth-tier side Deportivo Minera on Monday.
Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, and Arda Guler all found the net in the first half, putting the Spanish giants firmly in control. Veteran Luka Modric added a fourth before Guler completed the rout with a tap-in for his second goal of the night.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti rested several key players ahead of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia later this week, with Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior making appearances as second-half substitutes.
Valverde opened the scoring with a volley at the back post early in the game, and Camavinga doubled the lead 13 minutes later with a header. Endrick nearly added a third, but Guler capitalized on a deflection to make it 3-0.
Brahim Diaz hit the post early in the second half before Modric curled in a neat effort for Madrid’s fourth. Guler rounded off the performance with a simple finish, assisted by Fran Garcia, to cap a stellar evening for the Turkish playmaker.
Meanwhile, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid also progressed to the next round, while defending champions Athletic Bilbao edged past third-tier Logrones on penalties.
The draw for the next round is set for Wednesday, with matches scheduled between January 14-16.
