Man United to offer Harry Maguire one-year contract extension

Manchester United have confirmed plans to trigger a one-year contract extension for Harry Maguire.

Despite a difficult period under former manager Erik ten Hag, Maguire has featured in seven matches under Rúben Amorim, providing the 31-year-old with an opportunity to impress the Portuguese coach. Maguire also captained the team in the recent match against Newcastle, marking his first appearance as captain in 2023.

Ahead of their upcoming clash with Liverpool at Anfield, Amorim stated: “Amad is close to returning, and we will trigger Harry Maguire’s contract extension.” He added, “I spoke with him this morning and made it clear that he needs to improve his performance on the pitch. We need him more than ever.”

Amorim also emphasized the team’s urgent need for leadership, acknowledging that while Maguire has the potential to lead, he must further develop both his leadership and playing abilities.

“We are desperate for leaders on the pitch, and Harry is one of them,” Amorim continued. “He needs to improve his leadership and his game, but we’re happy to continue with him and trigger his extension.”
