Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford will miss the team’s upcoming Premier League match against Liverpool due to illness, manager Rúben Amorim confirmed on Friday.
During a press conference, Amorim explained that Rashford has been unable to train with the squad, effectively ruling him out of the highly anticipated clash.
“Marcus is ill and has not been training. I believe he will be unavailable for the game,” Amorim said.
The manager also noted that Rashford’s situation is similar to that of other players dealing with health issues within the squad.
“The situation remains the same; he is like all the other players,” Amorim added.
Earlier this week, Rashford responded to rumors linking him with a move away from Manchester United by calling claims that he was seeking a new agent “ridiculous.” The reports suggested that the England international had met with a top sports agency to facilitate a potential transfer.
The 27-year-old had raised speculation about his future last month when he hinted at a desire for a “new challenge,” following a period of reduced playing time under Amorim. Rashford, a product of United’s youth academy, was excluded from four consecutive matchday squads in December, beginning with the Manchester derby against City, and was an unused substitute in Monday’s defeat to Newcastle.
