Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially signed the ₦1.1 trillion 2025 Budget into law.
Speaking after the signing ceremony on Thursday, January 2, 2025, Fubara expressed gratitude to the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led State Assembly for its diligent work in passing the bill. He reaffirmed that the only legitimate House of Assembly in the state is the one under Oko-Jumbo’s leadership.
The governor made this statement while signing the 2025 Appropriation Bill into law, just one week after submitting it to the Oko-Jumbo-led Assembly.
Fubara also addressed the defection of Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that they are no longer recognized as members of the legislature, despite their recent attempts to reverse their decisions. The Amaewhule faction remains loyal to former Rivers Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, with whom Fubara has had ongoing political disagreements.
Despite giving the defectors ample opportunity to reconsider their actions, Fubara insisted that the decision to disqualify them is final and irreversible. He stated that no governor in Nigeria has faced the level of disrespect he has endured, but emphasized that his focus remains on leading Rivers State to greater achievements.
The newly signed budget outlines expenditure plans through to December 31, 2025, and is divided into 12 sections.
