Traders lament as fire razes Masaka market in Nasarawa

A fire at Masaka Market, located in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has left traders devastated, with many now counting their losses.

The fire broke out around 10:00 pm on Friday night, and eyewitnesses reported that large portions of the market were engulfed in flames. As of the latest update, fire service personnel had not arrived at the scene, and some areas of the market were still burning.

This incident marks the second major fire to hit the market in recent years, the first having occurred in 2019.

Videos of the blaze, obtained by The Telegraph, showed traders in distress, lamenting their financial losses as scavengers searched through the charred remains for any valuables that might have survived the fire.

In the wake of the disaster, traders have urgently called for government intervention, seeking support and assistance to recover from the devastating damage caused by the fire.
