Former U.S. President Bill Clinton was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, a day after being admitted with a fever, according to his office.
The 78-year-old former president was treated for the flu at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
“President Clinton was discharged earlier today after being treated for the flu,” said Angel Urena, Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, on the social media platform X. “He and his family are deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by the medical team and are touched by the kind messages and well wishes he has received.”
This marks the latest in a series of health scares for the veteran Democrat. Clinton was previously hospitalized for five nights in October 2021 for a blood infection. In 2004, he underwent a quadruple bypass surgery after being diagnosed with heart disease, prompting him to adopt a healthier lifestyle, including a vegetarian diet, which he has spoken about publicly.
Clinton, who served as president from 1993 to 2001, is currently the second-youngest living U.S. president, behind 63-year-old Barack Obama. His health made headlines in November 2022 when he tested positive for COVID-19.
Although his presidency was overshadowed by scandals, Clinton has remained active in the two decades since leaving office, focusing on diplomatic and humanitarian efforts.
