The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, as the aircraft, en route to Abuja, experienced engine failure caused by a bird strike just 10 minutes into the flight. The pilot and crew quickly took action, executing an emergency landing back at Maiduguri Airport, preventing disaster.

A Max Air staff member, who requested anonymity, confirmed the details of the incident on Thursday morning, stating, “Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft collided with a bird mid-air, causing one of the engines to catch fire. The pilot responded swiftly to ensure the safety of everyone on board.”

After the emergency landing, passengers were understandably shaken, with many choosing to collect their belongings and head home instead of boarding another flight. However, Max Air management quickly arranged an alternative aircraft from Kano to safely transport the deputy governor and the other passengers to Abuja.

In addition to the deputy governor, the flight carried several government officials, including a commissioner, special advisers, and senior aides.

The grounded aircraft is currently undergoing extensive repairs at Maiduguri International Airport, and investigations into the incident have been launched.

Airport authorities have reassured the public of their commitment to safety and commended the crew for their professionalism in handling the situation.
