In a bid to broaden its reach and enhance its global footprint, the National Examinations Council (NECO) has accredited additional foreign schools to conduct the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The newly accredited institutions, located in Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea, join a growing list of international schools authorized to administer NECO’s examinations.
A statement released by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, on Saturday, revealed that an accreditation team visited the schools to assess their preparedness to conduct the SSCE and BECE.
“The accreditation team inspected classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer labs, workshops, examination halls, and sports facilities to ensure they meet the necessary standards for NECO exams,” Sani stated.
After a thorough evaluation, the institutions were granted full accreditation for both the SSCE and BECE.
This expansion is part of NECO’s ongoing commitment to delivering quality educational assessments beyond Nigeria’s borders. With its increasing international presence, NECO is positioning itself as a leading examination body in Africa, offering students worldwide the opportunity to benefit from its expertise and contributing to the advancement of education across the continent and beyond.
In related news, candidates are currently taking part in the ongoing NECO SSCE External exams at the UNHCR School in Diffa, Niger Republic, marking the first-ever NECO SSCE External Centre outside Nigeria.
NECO examinations are now available in several countries, including Benin Republic, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, and Saudi Arabia.
