Lawal swears in 14 newly elected Zamfara LG chairmen

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has officially sworn in the newly elected local government chairmen who emerged victorious in the recent local government elections held last Saturday.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured a clean sweep, winning all chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state.

On the day following the election, the newly elected chairmen received their certificates of return from Bala Aliyu Gusau, Chairman of the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC).

The development was announced in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.

Governor Lawal praised the leadership of the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC) for successfully organizing a free, fair, and credible election process.

In his remarks, the governor emphasized the importance of local government councils as the third tier of governance, particularly in the context of the state’s ongoing socio-economic and security challenges. He stated:

“This election is pivotal at this time, as local government councils play a crucial role in complementing the efforts of the state government to address pressing issues and foster growth across all regions of Zamfara. There must be a strong synergy between the state and local governments to ensure rapid development at the grassroots level, which will, in turn, position Zamfara on the path to sustained growth and prosperity.”

Governor Lawal also urged the newly sworn-in chairmen to view their election as a call to service. He emphasized the need to prioritize the welfare of the people, ensuring fairness and equity in the distribution of development projects. He encouraged them to leverage state-backed social investment programs and other initiatives designed to create employment opportunities, reduce youth unemployment, and combat the rising tide of crime in the state.

“You must embrace transparency, accountability, and responsible management of public resources,” he said. “Collaboration with the State Government is key. Together, we can achieve our shared goals of developing Zamfara and enhancing the well-being of its citizens.”

In closing, the governor reiterated that the state government would continue to work closely with local government councils in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to achieve mutual objectives and bring about meaningful development across the state.
