Thirteen Nigerian girls who were trafficked to Ghana have been rescued, according to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
The agency stated that their rescue brings the total number of Nigerians repatriated in the past five months to 163.
In a statement issued by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the commission provided a breakdown of the rescued individuals.
“Among the 163 are the 13 girls who were rescued and brought back to Nigeria over the weekend,” the statement read.
The successful operation was the result of coordinated efforts between the Ghanaian Anti-Human Trafficking Police, The Rescue Live Foundation International, NIDO Ghana, and NiDCOM.
