Troops arrest 12 suspected kidnappers in Taraba
In a separate development, security forces in Taraba State have arrested 12 suspected kidnappers in the Takum Local Government Area. The arrests followed a distress call from residents of Chachanji village, who reported that two individuals had been abducted by a group of approximately 10 armed men on motorcycles on November 7.
Captain Olubodunde Oni, spokesman for the 6 Brigade, confirmed the operation and noted that 14 motorcycles, two bags of Indian hemp, and a locally-made pistol were recovered during the rescue effort.
“Upon making contact with the armed group, the superior firepower of our troops forced the kidnappers to retreat deeper into the bush, leaving behind their locally fabricated pistol and two bags of Indian hemp,” Captain Oni said.
He also highlighted that the troops’ thorough search and follow-up operations effectively disrupted the kidnappers’ activities, preventing further criminal actions in the area.
In a subsequent raid on November 9, military personnel apprehended 12 suspects at a local drinking joint in Mbhakyir village, near Agu Centre, and seized an additional 14 motorcycles linked to the kidnapping gang.
