Ekiti State Police Commissioner, Ogundare Dare, has vowed to apprehend the perpetrators of a broad daylight bank robbery in Ikere-Ekiti on Wednesday.
In a press release late Wednesday via the command X account, Dare said he expressed “displeasure over the ugly incident” and has ordered a full-scale investigation to “ensure the perpetrators are trailed, arrested and brought to book.”
Three people were feared to have been killed in armed robbery attacks on two new-generation banks in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Sources, who said the armed robbers struck at about 4.30 p.m., said that they blew the doors of the banks with dynamite and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.
A source, who said that he sighted a blood-soaked, lifeless body around the gate of one of the banks, said that he learned that two others were killed by the robbers in another location in the town.
The source said, “I can confirm the killing of a man at one of the banks. He was shot in the head. The lifeless body was there until police arrived the scene and people dispersed. I heard that two others were shot dead at another place.”
However, late Wednesday night, the police statement noted that “the Commissioner calls for calm and implores everyone to go about their lawful businesses as the command will not rest until the hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law.”
The statement added, “While commiserating with the family members of those who were fatally affected and wishing those currently receiving treatment in the hospital a quick recovery, the commissioner calls for calm and implores everyone to go about their lawful businesses as the command will not rest until the hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law.
“Meanwhile, the command’s tactical squads as well as the military who were deployed to the scene immediately information was received, engaged the hoodlums who abandoned the three vehicles and two motorcycles they used for the operation and escaped into the bush.
“The vehicles and motorcycles were recovered to the station.
