Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday signed the Lagos State Electricity Law 2024 into law, bringing the state’s electricity framework in line with the Electricity Act 2023 and the amended Nigerian Constitution.
At the same event, the governor formally inaugurated the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) at Lagos House, Ikeja. The commission is tasked with regulating and overseeing the state’s electricity market to ensure reliable, affordable, and efficient power supply for residents and businesses.
The LASERC board will be led by Mr. Akinwunmi Ogunbiyi as Chairman and Mrs. Temitope George as CEO. Other members include Mr. Bello Wasiu Oladimeji as Non-Executive Member, Engr. Adekunle Olapade as Executive Member for Engineering and Standards, and Mr. Kunle Falola as Executive Member for Licensing and Compliance.
Governor Sanwo-Olu explained that LASERC will handle licensing and compliance for electricity providers, regulate tariffs to ensure affordability, protect consumer rights, and promote market development through competition, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and grid modernization. He stressed that the commission will play a critical role in enhancing electricity delivery, fostering innovation, and safeguarding the interests of consumers across Lagos State.
