A large crowd of supporters has converged at the VIP wing of Port Harcourt International Airport in Rivers State, eagerly awaiting the arrival of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Sources confirmed to The Telegraph on Friday that the governor, who has reportedly been out of the state for some time, is expected to return shortly.
Governor Fubara has been at the center of a protracted political crisis involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule. In response to the escalating tensions, President Bola Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the state lawmakers for six months.
However, on Wednesday, President Tinubu announced the end of the emergency rule in Rivers State, lifting the six-month suspension.
The State House of Assembly resumed its activities on Thursday, but Governor Fubara was notably absent from the Government House, despite hundreds of loyal supporters gathered in anticipation of his return.
