FG launches portal to report housing fraud, monitor projects

The Federal Government has launched a new digital platform that allows Nigerians to report fraudulent activities in housing estates, submit supporting evidence, and track the progress of their complaints.

The initiative was announced in a statement by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (FMHUD) on Tuesday.

The Housing Fraud Reporting Portal, accessible at https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, is designed to enhance transparency in the real estate sector and clamp down on fraudulent developers and transactions.

“Fraudulent practices in housing estates will no longer be tolerated. Offenders will face the full weight of the law,” the Ministry stated.

The launch event included technical demonstrations by Freestone Investments Limited and Prunedge Development Technologies Limited, the consultants behind the platform’s development.

The portal provides a safe, user-friendly platform for citizens to report fraudulent practices in housing estates, upload evidence or documentation, and track the status of submitted complaints.

Cases will be reviewed by the Ministry in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, professional bodies, and the judiciary.

“The platform enables users to submit complaints and share relevant evidence and information on fraudulent practices in the real estate sector,” the Ministry said.

The fraud portal was developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure thorough tracking and follow-up on reported cases.

In addition to the fraud portal, the Ministry also unveiled the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS), a digital tool designed to monitor the progress of housing projects nationwide.

Key features of the CPCPMS include real-time tracking of project execution, evaluation of contractor performance against key performance indicators, and a centralized database for project documents, payment certificates, and Bills of Quantities.

Both platforms aim to strengthen accountability, improve service delivery, and promote transparency across Nigeria’s housing sector.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, said the platforms align with the objectives of the 2012 National Housing Policy, which advocates stricter regulation of the housing industry, certification of estate developers, and legal and administrative protection for citizens against fraud.

“These tools reflect our commitment to transparency, regulatory oversight, and protection of Nigerians in the real estate market,” Dangiwa said.

Dr. Marcus Amiolemen, Deputy Director and Head of the Ministry’s ICT Department, added that both platforms represent a major step toward leveraging technology to boost trust, efficiency, and accountability in housing delivery.
