Girl accused of poisoning five, speaks out after being cleared

Aisha Suleiman, who was wrongfully accused of poisoning five people with pepper soup, has spoken out following investigations that revealed the victims actually died from inhaling generator fumes.

In October 2024, Aisha became the target of a false accusation after a social media user on X (formerly Twitter) posted her photo, claiming she poisoned her boyfriend and four of his friends. Despite not being in the area at the time, Aisha was confronted upon her return, publicly humiliated, and violently attacked by an enraged mob. She was tied up, doused with petrol, and nearly set on fire before authorities intervened just in time to save her life.

Aisha was subsequently arrested and charged, but after human rights activists advocated for her case, a thorough investigation uncovered that the true cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning from generator fumes.

In an interview with ITV Radio shared on Friday, Aisha vehemently denied ever cooking pepper soup for anyone. She explained that tensions arose after she ended her relationship with her late boyfriend, and his father barred her from visiting their home. On the day of the incident, Aisha was in Iyakpi, while the deaths occurred in Afashio.

Now, many are calling for legal action against the individual who made the false accusation, demanding accountability for the harm caused.
