The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially restored Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Voter Education Committee, made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday. Olumekun explained that the decision follows the Supreme Court’s ruling, which has now been served to the Commission.

He further noted that during a meeting earlier in the day, INEC addressed the prolonged leadership dispute within APGA, a matter that has been the subject of extensive legal battles.

“In compliance with the Supreme Court’s judgment, the Commission now officially recognizes Ezeokenwa as the rightful chairman of APGA,” Olumekun said.

The statement also referenced the judgment issued on November 27, 2024, by the Supreme Court in the case with Appeal No. SC/CV/824/2024 (APGA & ANOR vs OYE & ORS), which confirmed Ezeokenwa’s position as APGA’s chairman.

“The Commission has been served with the Supreme Court ruling, which recognizes Barrister Sylvester (Sly) Ezeokenwa as the Chairman of the party,” Olumekun stated. “In line with the apex court’s decision, INEC has reinstated Barrister Ezeokenwa as the chairman and updated his name on our website accordingly.”

The Supreme Court’s ruling, delivered by a five-member panel led by Justice Stephen Adah, dismissed the claims of Edozie Njoku, who had been falsely presenting himself as the APGA national chairman. Since 2023, Ezeokenwa and Njoku have been embroiled in a legal battle over the leadership of the party.
