President Bola Tinubu has conferred Nigeria’s prestigious national honor, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The award was announced during the Nigeria-India Bilateral Meeting at the State House in Abuja on Sunday. President Tinubu emphasized that the honor was a gesture of Nigeria’s deep appreciation for India’s longstanding partnership and commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
“I am pleased to confer on you, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nigeria’s highest national honor, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger,” President Tinubu said. “This award signifies Nigeria’s profound appreciation and commitment to our enduring partnership with India.”
He added, “You have stood with Nigeria on numerous fronts over the years. Your leadership in advancing democratic values, fostering mutual collaboration, and supporting key sectors in India have been instrumental in furthering our shared goals. This award is a testament to the strength of our relationship and our continued joint efforts to enhance cooperation.”
